Gearboxes: During normal operation gearboxes are subject to thermal expansion. This thermal expansion and contraction produces very little air flow in and out of the gearbox. All Air Sentry breathers can handle the airflow of thermal expansion and contraction. Air and Oil flow can dramatically increase when the gearbox is drained for filled. If the gearbox is being gravity filled/drained, then no problem - all Air Sentry breathers can handle the airflow flow from a gearbox being gravity drained or filled. If the gearbox is being filled or drained from a pump, then the breather air flow capacity needs to match that of the pump.

Hydraulic systems: On hydraulic systems there is a hydraulic pump with a GPM rating. That oil flow rate (GPM) can be converted to an air flow rate (CFM) to properly size the breather.

Diesel fuel tanks: During operation of fuel tanks, there is a fill and dispense rate in GPM. This oil flow rate (GPM) can be converted to an air flow rate (CFM) to properly size the breather. We only recommend Guardian for fuel tank operations, usually two breathers are recommended to build in a safety factor.
